HARIMAU 100% ORGANIC COTTON WOVEN BLANKET LIMITED EDITION OF 100

This distinctive print is inspired by the harimau (tiger in Indonesian) but it also borrows its appeal from Batik, the ancient art form of Indonesia.

FURTHER READING

The art of Batik (Made using wax resistant dye on fabrics) originated in Java and has been developed over many moons, it is widespread throughout Indonesia and is commonly used in various rituals, ceremonies, traditions, celebrations, and everyday life. Batik is not only a physical activity but holds a deeper dimension too, full of symbols that often hold deeper meaning, traditional pieces will often contain stories, prayer, hope, and lessons and this is what gives them a magical quality.

The idea that a piece of fabric can carry a deeper symbology, message or meaning is a sentiment worth holding and that feeling is instilled in ‘Harimau’.

Whilst it charms with the magnetism and edge of its sharp angular stripes and its burnished orange allure, more importantly it reminds us how regal, awe inspiring and graceful tigers are and that across their range, tigers face unrelenting pressures from poaching, retaliatory killings, and habitat loss. They are forced to compete for space with dense and often growing human populations.

Considered to be an embodiment of “yang” – or positive – energy, the tiger is a ‘solar animal’ and in Yin-and-Yang philosophy, associated with the sun, summer and re. Tigers symbolise Power, Energy, Royalty, Protection, Generosity, Illumination, and Unpredictability.
