THE ARTWORK
The hills in the landscape undulate with their mouths agape, their blue and yellow faces look-up with wide-eyes and a set of crooked teeth shoot into the night. The horned, blue hellhound guards the foreground and looks over with bemusement as the burning tree- burns. Floating from the abyss come a trio of skulls... they dance on ghostly tails and haunt our anti-hero Daemon.
‘Daimonic’ is a psychological term that describes The unrest that exists in us all which forces us into the unknown, leading to self-destruction and or self-discovery. (psychology, spirituality, mythology, literature) The journey and transition from innocence to experience and part of the process of individuation.
The idea of the daimonic, though sometimes equated with the fiendish and “demonic” is more often used to indicate inspiration and motivation by a spiritual force or genius. It can also mean (as a literary term) the unrest that exists in us all which forces us into the unknown, leading to self-destruction and/or self-discovery.
“I have no right to call myself one who knows. I was one who seeks, and I still am, but I no longer seek in the stars or in books; I’m beginning to hear the teachings of my blood pulsing within me. My story isn’t pleasant, it’s not sweet and harmonious like the invented stories; it tastes of folly and bewilderment, of madness and dream, like the life of all people who no longer want to lie to themselves.” ―Hermann Hesse, Demian
