THE ARTWORK

In one vignette, a lion and manticore sit beneath the glow of the sun and poke their tongues out at each other whilst the crescent moon hangs between their chests. Three Blemmyes or “headless ones” emerge joyfully from a forest clearing. The alchemical sun sits in his throne holding flowers, whilst a demonic imp licks a mushroom. Another reveller dances with flowers that stem from his bum whilst beaked snakes suspend a nude female in their mouths. The hanged man dangles upside down from a tree (the tarot symbol that suggests ultimate surrender, sacrifice, or being suspended in time), and arcane text is penned between each scene.
