THE ARTWORK
This scene painted by Stevie Anderson, nods to the Garden of Eden: a paradise where beauty and temptation intertwine, and where serpents are not just harbingers of fall, but keepers of wisdom.
Long before this tale, the serpent has been venerated across time and cultures—from Mesopotamia to Mesoamerica, from India to the isles of Japan. Etched into stone, painted on walls, and preserved in sacred texts, the snake is revered as a symbol of divine insight, spiritual transformation, and eternal life.
In Gnostic traditions, it is not a deceiver, but a bearer of cosmic truth—the embodiment of the soul’s immortality.
Among the sacred mysteries, initiates are known as Nagas—‘Serpents of Wisdom’—those who, like the coiled figures in this work, glide between worlds, holding the secrets of creation, death, and rebirth.
This artwork invites the viewer to reconsider the serpent: not as a villain, but as a vital, sacred force—entwined forever with the story of humanity.
